What the first round of Facebook Messenger apps will look like

For Facebook, third-party apps can potentially lure many more users to its ever-expanding Messenger service while developers are hoping Facebook will bring visibility to their apps that may otherwise be overlooked in an increasingly crowded app ecosystem.
The new Messenger-specific apps can be found in the app's new "discover" tab. Some of the apps have standalone counterparts that work separately from Messenger while others were developed specifically for the new platform.

At the heart of the new Messenger-specific apps is the blue messenger icon, which allows users to push the content they create directly to Messenger. Many of the apps in the first batch are focused on photos and entertainment, as Facebook undoubtedly sees this as an area that will appeal to those already using Messenger.

From personalized music messages to animated photo effects, here's a look at some of the first apps that you can use within Facebook Messenger.

Ditty for Messenger

Ditty, the second app from the music industry veterans at Zya, allows users to send brief messages to friends set to the music of popular songs. Begin by typing a message — up to 70 characters — and then choose a song from the app's library of tracks. The app automatically creates a musical message that puts your text to the melody of the song.
